M-16 Special Forces
A special knife from CRKT for professional use. Designed with military
special forces in mind, the
M16-13SF is a “folding fixed blade” with a true hilt.
The M16-13SF is a unique knife with a combination of M16 Aluminum Series
features which were requested by a military procurement specialist. The
dual grind Tanto-style combination edge blade was specified because it offers
maximum strength. The M16 open build allows two Carson Flippers to be
incorporated, resulting in a true hilt— very rare in folding knives.
Blade, frame and hardware are all non-reflective black.
Like all folders in our professional For Those Who Serve line, the M16-13SF
also features the patented Lake And Walker Knife Safety (LAWKS®),
which effectively turns the folder into a fixed blade when actuated (U.S.
Pat. No. 5,596,808). The LAWKS mechanism positively blocks the knife’s
liner
lock from being accidentally released, regardless of how the locking liner
might be stressed.
The result is a knife that gets blasé knife enthusiasts suddenly excited.
When it is open, with LAWKS actuated, it offers the strength, rigidity and
safety of a
hilted fixed blade. Release the LAWKS lever, release the locking liner, and
it folds to a length on only 4.63” (11.8 cm). You have the advantages
of a fixed
blade without the disadvantage a costly sheath carry system. The M16-13SF
weighs in at only 3.5 oz. (98 g), an important consideration on ardous special
forces missions.
Kit Carson, Knifemakers’ Guild Member, and designer of the M16®
Series, retired after 20 years as a First Sergeant in the U.S. Army, in Combat
Arms
and Armor and Cavalry. The CRKT production aluminum frame M16-13SF is based
on Kit’s custom M16 design. It features sure-grip contoured handles
of textured, black, hard anodized 6061 T6 aluminum, with a perimeter radius
for a comfortable grip with or without work gloves. Stainless steel locking
liners with friction grooves, for positive locking with limited access, for
superior safety. AUS 8 stainless steel blades, chosen for edge retention and
durability,
with non-reflective black titanium nitride coating. Combined Razor-Sharp and
Triple-Point™ Serrated edges for rugged cutting tasks that break down
standard cutting edges.
One-hand opening and closing is velvet smooth, the result of precision tolerances
and Teflon® bearings. The ambidextrous thumb stud with checkered
surface provides instant access in any circumstance. A removable black Teflon
plated stainless steel clothing/gear clip increases carry utility.
